Types Of Energy

  • What Is Energy?

    The word energy is used in many diffrent ways. In science energy is the ability to do work or cause change. Energy can change an objects color, shape, temperature, and how fast the object may be moving. Sound, light, electricity, and magnetism are forms of energy you may be familuar with. Chemical Energy is fond in the bonds holding molecules together. Nuclear Energy holds the nucleus of an atom together. Objects that are moving or stretching have Mechanical Energy. When an object gains Thermal energy, it gets hotter. Energy cannot be made or destored. However, it can move from one object to another. Energy can also change from one form to another. Consider fireworks, When fireworks are lit, chemical reactions create hot gases.


  1. Energy: The ability to do work or cause a change.
  2. Kinetic Energy: The energy due to motion.
  3. Potential Energy: that is not causeing motion now, but could cause changes in the future.
  4. Electromagnet Radiation: It is the combination of electrical and magnetic energy.
  5. Thermal Energy: Is the total of all the kinetic and potential energy of the atoms in an object.
  6. Condution: The transfer of heat between objects that are in contact.
  7. Convection: Another way that heat is transfered.
  8. Mechanical Energy: The total energy of motion and position of an object.
  9. Insulator: A material that reseits the flow of electric charge and therefore does not conduct electricty well.
  10. Condutor: A marterial that readily allows electric charges to pass thourgh it and therefore carries electricity well.
  11. Electric Current: The flow of electric charges along a path.
